Sling: Live TV, Sports & News App Reviews

App continues to crash

I like the idea of the service but i hate that the app crashes on my iPad mini 4, iPhone 6s, and Apple Tv.

Good stuff kinda

Works great on my phone and tablet if they would fix the Xbox app to stop it from crashing like once an hour it would easily go from a 3 star to a 5 star in my book

Use as Guide

The app would be a lot better if you could use it more as a tv guide with the option to watch, instead of having to watch automatically.

This is what Ive been looking for!

Went through the trial period and have cut the cable and returned the satellite equipment! This gives a good cross section of channels for a reasonable price. Hated paying $140 per month for hundreds of garbage channels. No issues, no hang-ups, and no leased equipment. If the service and price stay reasonable, were here to stay!

Great potential

Not quite there yet. Picture gets pixelated every minute or so for about 5 seconds. I have very fast internet, so thats not the issue. Also, the "continue watching" section never populates with anything. But it gets the job done and I love that Time Warner is getting less of my money now.

The Worst App in the History of Apps...

Every day I come home thinking theres no way the app for Sling TV still is as crappy as it has been. I think "today must have been the day they fixed it so its an actual usable product". Then I sit on the couch, open the app to watch the news, and it crashes... The constant glitches, buffering (on high speed internet), switching to basically 100p quality, and crashing makes this a completely unusable service. I come back every couple of months to check if there have been any updates to be let down every single time.

Sling tv app

This app works fine on iphone and pc, however it is so inconsistent on the xbox one that im thinking of cancelling the service- it only works 20% of the time on xbox and of course, thats where i have a 55" screen. Im tired of watching this on a 5 inch screen the majority of the time. Cmon Sling and work on that xbox app!!!!!

Crashes a little less

App crashes often. But when its working its great other than that. But I did talk to tech support and they hopefully have made improvements I can see! Theyve added a few new channels I mentioned in a previous review so happy about that! But of course we Americans are always wanting more. I would love to see more cable channels added to packages like OWN network and HLN that would be great!! PLEASE AT LEAST ADD STARZ!!!! Thanks for the changes. Much better!

Needs AirPlay support!

I have an older Apple TV so cant get the sling app. I love the idea and price, but without AirPlay support I have to tie up my iPhone with mirroring, and thats a pain. If I get a new Apple TV I would consider sling again though!

It is not the Internet connection

Sling is fine for streaming live tv with all the commercials, but has some serious streaming problems with the On Demand options. Each time I had a problem streaming an On Demand episode on Sling, I checked and Netflix was working just fine. Sling on the other hand kept buffering endlessly, and when it finally worked out, it would not allow me to resume at the same spot I had left off and I had to watch thirty more minutes that I had already watched. Its not the Internet connection. It needs serious improvement on the Resume function and allowing viewers to easily navigate the episode time line. Otherwise, its more frustrating than its worth.

Terrible

Wow...finally get to cut the cable Disillusion as you realize its too good to be true. Please sort out the buffering. Reminds of that hilarious Silicon Valley episode where I miss the important part of sports events due to buffering and rehashing ...ugh

Glitchy and so many bugs

This app HAD great potential but the developers fall really short in delivering a quality product. If you like watching an orange circle in the middle of your screen every other minute, then this app is for you. But once your show or movie is playing, watch out! The video quality is awful! Feels like Im watching videos from a dial up server! The glitch was so annoying that I ended up deleting the app and reinstalling it only to find that it still didnt work correctly. Im still on my trial run and Ive only had it for three day but I will probably cut it short and terminate my subscription. Developers please get it together! Pros: $20 for tv, beats the hell out of cable Cons: $20 for a non functioning app

Great concept. Not so great execution

There are so many great options for movies and channels but the design of the app itself (On all platforms) is a huge downfall. There is no organization whatsoever and the shows/movies are not categorized by anything but alphabetical order. If they were to work on improving the functionality of the app it would be worth every penny. For now, I wouldnt use this app for more than the 7 day free trial.

Are they aware the app is not working!!!???

Idk if theyre aware but their app for iOS is not working. I tried everything already and still doesnt work, it works just fine in my tv, but when I wanna watch it on the go it doesnt work. The app is fantastic because I get to watch tv wherever I go, but the last couple of weeks it hasnt worked. Oh and btw, Im paying 25 bucks a month for it so I expect it to work everything I open the app.

Very good on iPhone and iPad

Very satisfied to watch NBA playoffs on TNT or ESPN using SlingTV app. No any problem.

Doesnt work

Doesnt work on my iPhone 6. App opens but nothing it there just a black screen.

Glitchy, difficult to navigate, needs work!

This sounded like a promising app, I figured it would be a good companion app to my Hulu Plus service, but so far (day 2 of my 7-day free trial) Im not very impressed. The app is not user friendly, its extremely difficult to navigate through the icons and screens to see what programs are available, and its very glitchy. There are very, very few archived episodes of programs, so if you purchase this service thinking that youll be able to go back and catch up on a series, forget it. Movie list is not much better than Hulus, and movies are apparently an additional $3 (I only know this from reading another review, because when I select a movie, I get a "How do I watch this movie?" button that does nothing when I click on it). Commercials are endless and repetitive, and they seem to come on randomly about every 3-5 minutes during a program. The apps search function is useless; for example, if I type in "Dance Moms" there are zero results, yet the program is in the guide listings for Tuesday nights on LMN. As far as being a replacement for cable, Id say there are scarely enough channels on the basic plan to make that claim, and the ones they do have are loaded with paid programming and shows that repeat. Several other reviewers mentioned that they were billed when they canceled after their 7-day free trial, and that Slings customer service was poor in getting that resolved. (I WILL be on the lookout for that kind of crap, and if that happens Ill just skip customer service and dispute the charge through my card issuer instead - thanks for the heads up, reviewers.) I only gave the app a second star because it does play pretty well on my iPad, and Im using it over the AT&T 4G/LTE network, as we live in a rural area and dont have any home internet or wi-fi. So theres that.

AirPlay

For those trying to AirPlay to your appleTV, it no longer works and Im canceling service. You used to be able to by flipping the "mirroring" switch for it to work, which was poor to begin with. Add that to a slow, glitchy experience and Im back to using my parents cable login for each app independently for live streaming. Sling, you just dont get it. Its about the user.

Rarely works

I have tried to use this app several times to watch shows while they are airing and the content never loads. I like to product idea, but it has been completely ineffective and Ive asked for a refund.

Works great for me

I feel like i have to write this because of all the terrible reviews. Have had absolutely zero issues running this app on both my ipad and macbook. Watched multiple channels, different times of the day, for different periods of time and no issues. Just remember that youre streaming live tv, so dont even try it if you dont have the bandwidth to support that wherever you are streaming from (cellular) or if you have a bunch of people/devices using your wifi. This is not the same idea as Netflix, you are not downloading the broadcast, it is live. Dont be ignorant and it is a great app. Mamba out.
