Sling: Live TV, Sports & News App Reviews

Garbage

Dont waste your time.

It does the job pretty well

Ive been a Sling customer since they came out of beta last year (?). The service itself has gotten a lot better since its rocky beginnings. I have had high quality service for the past six months. Ill limit any criticism to the app. The app itself works fine. It does have some quirks. The one that stands out for me is something as simple as changing the channel. I cant seem to find a simple way to do this within the app. I currently have to tap about three times with corresponding screens between each of them. The quality of the playback and the apps responsiveness is good, even before T-Mobile compressed the stream in exchange for not having it go against my data usage. Im not really understanding some of the negative reviews since my experience is so vastly different.

Astonishing how awful this is.

Grainy picture. Cuts outs entirely very few minutes. I thought it was a joke at first but no, it really is this bad.

App Sabotage

I spend money for the service and cant thoroughly enjoy it. I really love the concept of TV on the go but I want to enjoy it in every feature possible. I have Apple TV and each time I try playing a show from my iPad to Apple TV there is ALWAYS a glitch. Please put an app on Apple TV like you do for Roku so I can enjoy my time watching cable television. This would be so helpful.

Love Sling

We have completely converted from cable to antenna and Internet sling tv. We do have the occasional glitch with the app, but for the most part, it works great! We love sling, please keep up the great work!

Very unhappy customer...

The Sling TV App presents one of the poorest customer facing services and UI Ive used in many years. Simple things like being able to paste into the Logon screen do not exist - so much for non-trivial passwords. And, if you try and move from one device to another, the Service doesnt recognize that youve disconnected from "A" and are not using "B" - it can take over an hour for the service to allow "B" to connect. If that isnt enough, wheres the tvOS App for Gen4 AppleTV? Still waiting. If things dont change real soon, Ill be discontinuing the service.

iPad Air 2 issues

App works fine on my iPhone 6 but not on my iPad Air 2. Have already reinstalled this app countless times with no luck.. Schedule doesnt load, there only a black screen while I can still access the menus. Have to keep trying and trying to watch something. Not to mention poor experience with Chromecast. Frustrating, to say the least!

Horrid Service, Customer Service and App

After contacting 6 or 7 times because of issues with the app, being told to uninstall and reinstall and doing that twice and then being told by the next rep that some magic process would fix it forever, (surprise, it was the uninstall/reinstall) and being disappointed, I was told that issues such as these do not merit a credit. BYE. CANCELED.

Very disappointed

Thank god they offer a free trial. I would suggest that they focus the app on using the service, rather than selling me add ons. I would have been much more likely to keep the service. Discovering the schedule and things I might want to watch would be a good thing to do in this. It is terrible.

Pathetic

Extremely long buffering times. Cant watch anything!! Very unsatisfied

Right idea, not-so-great execution

After reading the capabilities that Sling was bringing, I was really excited to try it out. Given that the service has been operational for some time now, I was expecting a level of stability and reliability. Unfortunately, the stream pauses and buffers way to often. I am an IT professional and I know the problem Is not on my end. Other streaming services, such as Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Video, etc stream flawlessly, full HD. Live streams are tricky to handle but there are technologies to buffer serverside to provide a more reliable experience on the customer side. Customer service experience MUST be a priority in commercial products like this. If this is not addressed Soon I will be on the market for a new solution.

A lot of issues

sling tv is a great price, but the service has issues. Like not being able to fast forward previously aired shows. That would be too bad, if theyre not motivated to change (fix) the fast forward issue heres the problem (when playing archived shows). Each time you press RIGHT its supposed to jump ahead 30 secs in the playback. And pressing FF is supposed to switch to fast forward mode and stays there until you press OK/PLAY In reality though, pressing FF only seems to fast forward a few secs and then stops and drops back to normal play (and the process itself takes a few secs to complete). Pressing RIGHT doesnt do anything. The only exception is if you had already performed a rewind first, then Sling TV lets you continually fast forward up to the point where you first did the rewind. This is even more of a problem due to the limited resume playback functionality. If you already saw the first half of a recently aired show and want to continue, Sling TV will start you at the beginning again. Then you have to keep pressing FF every few secs in a cycle, just to advance a few secs each time. The irony is that each cycle takes almost as much time to complete as what you saved in the very short fast forward jump. So its very inefficient. Note that the problem also exists with Sling TVs mobile apps. Does anyone know if this is a bug thats being worked on, or whether its an inherent limitation with their streaming architecture?

Good service, bad app

I love this app for streaming on my tv. Its a great value and alternative to cable. The app, however, is glitchy and poorly designed. When I open the app, it always starts with ESPN, regardless of where I left off. And for the past week, the app doesnt open at all.

Outstanding

My only regret is that I did not sign up for Sling sooner. I have had this about a month and have yet to have any problems of any kind. My Internet carrier is century link and I have the 12 MB per second subscription. We often have at least a half dozen devices online at any given time and Sling has not had any picture perfect without any lag time.

Useless

Very bad app. Simply does not works at all. I been having a hard time to see the channels using my iPad or using a chrome cast, both are useless. I decided to cancel my subscription.

Awful

Constant buffering, especially on Chromecast. For comparison, Netflix streams flawlessly. Slow, buggy, poorly designed app too. Occasionally starts the stream from the beginning of the stream instead of live. Only way to catch up is to restart the stream and hope for the best. Overall a mess.

Poor quality

The quality is horrible it freezes way to much i love the idea of tv streaming on apps and what not but needs improvement

Works Fantastic on Roku

Ive been living without cable since 2012. Since that time Ive used a Roku 2 plus Hulu. Now, Ive added Sling TV, and Im very pleased. I dont understand the negative reviews; but, perhaps you may wish to invest in a Roku streaming device. The picture looks just as clear to me as my HD OTA channels. No buffering on my standard internet service. It also works great on my iPad. And the fact that they are adding more channels like MTV, VH1, and BET is awesome. All of my favorite channels are covered between Hulu, Roku (free channels) and now Sling TV!

App needs serious debugging

Title says it all. Sling TV is a great idea in principle but the execution is terrible. Stutters constantly even though I have it set to lowest quality streaming and 100mbps internet speed. Often has trouble connecting to chromecast. Sometimes you open the app and its just a black screen and nothing ever loads. After this month that Ive already paid for Im definitely cancelling my subscription simply because the app is so glitchy and annoying to use.

Cable TV on iPhone

Getting the service with the savings from T-Mobile and the price point seems reasonable, especially with the Binge On feature for video streaming. Also, the app is great! The streaming buffer is barely consistent which throws all viewers off, but TV for me is a last resort before bugging the opposite sex for things, so I find SlingTV highly entertaining. Keep the improvements coming!
