Sling: Live TV, Sports & News App Reviews

111 add

Unable watch live tv in IPhone. There is an endless spinning circle. Two months trying to fix it and their customer service is worse than their app.

Terrible

Started 7 day trial today. Tried on iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, disappointing. I spent more time waiting for it to load shows, sound and pic not syncing up. Tested my speed and Internet is fine, all other streaming apps work fine.

Fast forward

"Available now" shows will not forward on my iPad. Not by the 30 second forward button and not by sliding a finger on the progress bar.

Terrible UI

I really like the idea of cord cutting, but I really hope that they will spend more time fixing the app crashes and paying attention to user experience. The UI is just horrible especially if you subscribe to the Cantonese channels. Not a single show fetches a screenshot, so my entire UI is showing the default icon.

Wrong schedule and no episode descriptions

I was watching Disney channel and it said Liv and Maddie was on. But when I started watching it, a different show was on! And when I clicked on a show, it didnt say anything about the episode! Please fix this

Sling "TV" service is TERRIBLE.

Ive been using sling for 3 months now. Only because I prepaid... This is by far the worst streaming service I have ever used. Hulu, Netflix, Amazon video, etc all have way better service. Sling TV constantly freezes, especially on highly traffic programs likes the NBA finals...

Doesnt work

The live TV feature On Now doesnt work at all, even in high speed wifi. Please fix.

Does NOT work

The app doesnt work on iPad either on iPhone! You cannot seen live tv! I just purchased 3 months of service!!! I am furious!

Lacking News Options

My husband and I got the 2nd tier package to save some money and cut the cable and so far I am happy with some of the available programming. Some stuff is just pointless though. Really, who in the world watches Maker or Polaris? Anyone? Certainly not me. Pointless programming that no one cares about. On a positive note, I love the Sling interface because it is easy to use. The news options are terrible though! I now have no idea what is going on in the world because my only options are the annoying Newsy, which plays some obnoxious long intermediary drumbeat on repeat every few minutes or CNN which reports nothing but Trump and Hillary. I honestly cant stand to watch either. I dont want to have to search the web for news. I feel like we should have at least one real news option. I feel frustrated that Sling is sadly not the one-stop-shop I had hoped it would be.

you get what you pay for

This is better than paying a large cable bill, but you get what you pay for. Its not great. Pauses/buffers ALL the time & often stops working. I would recommend this only if youre not really into tv ... or else its VERY frustrating. Neither package is great so you end up paying for both just to get the two channels you want (in my case ESPN & NBC ... those two channels are in different packages).

App crashes with Xbox-1

Using with Xbox-1 the app constantly crashes with user authorization errors or an endlessly spinning circle while it thinks. Can watch a show 1 out of 6 tries. Worthless.

UPDATED: A Work In Progress; In The Right Direction

UPDATED: Buffering problems are history and reliable streaming is the standard of the day, day after day and at anytime of the day. Truly a reliable live streaming option to cable and satellite services. Updated to four stars. *** Using the App for the trial service on an iPhone 6S, an iPad 4th generation, an iPad Pro, and both the 32GB and the 64GB Apple TV fourth generation models was an exercise with more pleasure than pain. The devices with the Sling TV App were connected by 5.0Ghz WiFi at ~200Mbs. The Sling TV App works just fine. The streaming service needs greater reliability. The App UI is not particularly slick or especially innovative, but it is functional, becomes familiar to use in no time at all, and does have some nice options for previewing the current and upcoming schedule without leaving the program being currently watched. The Sling TV service delivering the content stream is either rock solid or an on again, off again, on again, off again buffering interrupting annoyance. Most of the time, the performance is solid; during those times that the streaming is interrupted, it is frustrating beyond common patience. Having "cut the cord" in 2006 and then easing into paying for Netflix and Hulu as those services evolved, adding Sling TV as an additional paid entertainment service for more television choices wasnt a quick decision and I watched far more programming during the trial period than I normally would in order to give the App and accompanying service a good workout. Sling TV offers a good choice of networks; most of the same networks which I wouldve selected à la carte if the cable monopolies allowed such an option. Ill manage through the occasional frustrating interruption and stay with the Sling TV as it continues to more fully develop.

Buh bye Comcast aka Xfinity

Im so happy with Sling so far and I havent even tried it with Roku. Im stoked you have Bravo its the main reason i switched as its pretty much all i watch. You literally saved me so much money every month and i get a lot more channels! It felt soooo good to return my digital starter and additional outlet boxes to Comcast. Felt like a huge weight off me. I have high speed cable internet and havent had any issues w crashing except just one error that said something about another device running and in order to keep viewing id have to start a new video. Had no idea what that meant so i signed off and went back in and everything was fine. Hope it stays this way! Thank you thank you!!

Love, Love, Love this app and service

I have no idea why so many one star reviews - but Sling TV is fantastic. Dont believe me? Try their 7 day service for free. I have not seen any lag or any other issues since I started with this service. If your service is poor, it could be due to poor internet speeds - not the sling service. Is the app perfect - no. Could they improve the service - yes. For the price however (20/25 a month) it works great. Do some research and try Sling. For me its way better than cable.

Deserves zero star

Bottom line is that this app is not ready for prime time. Running on Apple Tv using airport extreme. The app hardly ever runs and when it does it crashes or freezes. The app doesnt work on any iOS or OS device. Have to give credit to cust supp for trying. However, none of the solutions they offered worked. Their only response was to watch the app on another platform or buy a different router. Neither of which I am interested in. The app simply is a no-go for apple products. Other streaming apps are up and coming, hulu, amazon prime, and possibly apples own.

Nice idea needs better updates

I like this concept its much better than cable but it stops and doesnt play for a long time. My internet is good its buffing like crazy on live tv? Needs allot of work.

Why did I try again

Dropped Sling when it froze during Copa soccer - semi finals. Thought Id try again to watch the Olympics. Save $25 stay away

App is terrible

The concept of Sling TV is excellent, unfortunately its spoiled by the app and interface. Ive tried Sling on both my iPad and my Apple TV and its bad on both. Browsing networks is lousy, shows just randomly begin playing when I open the app, theres really not even a "main screen" where I can go to just breathe for a minute! Whats even worse, different networks appear depending upon if Im on wifi or cellular with my iPad. This app needs a complete overhaul.

Needs PIP support with iOS 9

This app has good merits and the monthly fee is not bad, but it desperately needs PIP support on the iPad version of the app.

Cant watch Olympics with this unless in a major city

The website touts Sling as a way to watch the NBC Olympics if you dont have cable or sat TV. Turns out that is only the case IF you live in one of about 8 big cities. Of course, this information is not clear unless you read a blog post and follow a link to the list of cities. Just blew $25 and still cant watch the Olympics. Super frustrating.
